London SPRING 2022 guide

Spring where’d you go? You graced us with your presence the other week. Come back please!

If I find out the answer to this question, I will let you know. But in the meantime (and with the hopes that the sun will return to the London sky once more) -the next MOS guide is here. Another combination of art, food and activity - the Spring version.

Maybe you’ve already started your seasonal celebrations by catching the cherry blossoms around London. Or maybe you missed them like I did 🥲Don’t fret, there are plenty of other joyful Spring activities to fill your time with. Enjoy.

Next stop - Summer.

You may already recognise the great Japanese artist Hokusai and his Great Wave, but perhaps you’ve never come across Kawanabe Kyosai. This exhibition brings his beautiful, energetic style to life through painting, woodcut prints and illustrated books. Some of its terrifying and beautiful. Some of its witty and emotional. This is his first UK exhibition in 30 years. Grab yourself a ticket.

On from 19th March - 19the June.

If you’ve been watching my stories in the past few months, you’ll probably recognise that I’ve been sharing Cédric Grolet’s incredible pastries. Luckily enough I was doing a floral styling job at the Berkeley the other week, and obviously had to visit the cafe on my way out. Now do be warned, these are a splurge. I’ve never paid £17 for a single pastry, but let me tell you, it was worth it. His creations are a work of art. Try it (if only once.) My personal favourite was the vanilla flower.

I absolutely adore this west London institution. It’s a fusion of Japanese and Nordic cultures culminated into a shopping and dining experience. I would recommend everything here. Cafe Kitsuné for a coffee (or matcha), Sachi for one of the best sushi experiences in London, and the Roof Garden for a cocktail in the sun filled conservatory. Keep an eye out on their experience page on their website. They have wonderful events ranging from sake tastings to tea ceremonies.

I’m a sucker for contemporary sculpture artists. And Whitechapel Gallery always has a winning show. Simone Fattal’s work draws from figuration and abstraction. She uses recurring motifs and forms to create a world entirely her own.

On until 14th June.

Another pasta restaurant in London? We can never have enough! Just thinking about Manteca’s focaccia and fazzoletti with duck ragu is making me drool. Thank goodness I have a table booked later this month. It’s delicious, excellent value and unbeatable. Go for dinner, share a few small plates (mortadella and pig head fritti recommended), sit back and enjoy.

This is a hidden gem in East London. Situated in a basement around Hackney Central, this lo-fi bar is an audiophile and cocktail lovers dream. It has a Japanese feel, with minimal wooden and tiled finishings. They don’t have a menu, you speak to the bartender to create a cocktail from scratch to your liking. What a concept.
